Helping Start Initiatives
Klesis helps start initiatives which connect Christians. They include APEDS forum and YCN. Once started, these initiatives tend to run on their own steam with their own organisers. If you’ve got an idea for a new initiative, contact us and we’ll see if we can assist.
The beginnings of the APEDS (Asia Pacific Elders, Deacons, and Spouses) forum can be traced back to 2014 when Klesis organised an Eldership Weekend on 31 Oct-1 Nov 2014 in Perth. Hosted by the Malaga Church of Christ, the weekend brought together around 50 Christians from around Australia and Singapore for a period of sharing, learning, and reflection.
The next gathering was in July 2016 and was hosted by the Pasir Panjang Church of Christ (Singapore). The Pasir Panjang Church called the gathering "the APEDS forum". The new name stuck. The 2016 APEDS forum was held in Malacca, Malaysia. This was followed by the 2018 APEDS forum which was hosted in March 2018 by The Point Church in Brisbane.
The next APEDS forum was to have been hosted by Belmore Road Church of Christ in Sept 2020 in Melbourne; but this has been rescheduled for 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
During the pandemic, with encouragement from Klesis, a group of younger Christians developed a new initiative called Young Christians Network. YCN is intended for young men and women between the ages of 20–35 years who are part of non-denominational Churches of Christ in Australia. The hope is that this informal network will help make and strengthen personal connections and motivate one another to love and good works. YCN has since convened two well-attended online gatherings in December 2020 and March 2021. More are to come!
YCN is for members of Churches of Christ in Australia aged around 20 to 35-ish. If you fit this description and are interested in joining future events, please email us at:
